Tasks
A task only needs a title. Everything else is optional, and most tasks never need more than a title and a due date.
Completing and importance
Section titled “Completing and importance”Tick a task to complete it. Mark it important and it appears in your Important smart list alongside everything else you have flagged.
Importance is a flag rather than a scale. It is for the handful of things that genuinely matter today, and it stops being useful the moment everything is important.
Due dates
Section titled “Due dates”Give a task a due date and it appears in Today on the day, and in Scheduled before then. Overdue tasks stay in Today until you deal with them.
Due dates are also what drives reminders and what the Today widget shows.
Detail
Section titled “Detail”Tasks have a detail field for anything that does not fit in the title: context, a link, what “done” actually means.
Subtasks and progress
Section titled “Subtasks and progress”Break a task into subtasks and it tracks progress as you tick them off, so a big task shows how far along it is rather than sitting stubbornly incomplete.
Use subtasks when the steps only make sense together. If the steps are independent, they are probably tasks of their own.
Assignment
Section titled “Assignment”On a shared list, a task can be assigned to a member. Assigned tasks show up in that person’s Assigned smart list, which is how work gets picked up without anyone having to ask.
Everything else a task can hold
Section titled “Everything else a task can hold”Tags, comments and file attachments are covered in Tags, comments and attachments. Tasks that come back on a schedule are covered in Recurring tasks.
