Smart lists

Contributors

Smart lists gather tasks from across all your lists, so you can work from one place rather than opening each list in turn. They sit at the top of the Lists screen, each showing a count of what is in it.

Smart list What it gathers
All Every incomplete task you have, across every list
Today Everything due today, plus anything overdue
Scheduled Everything with a future due date
Important Everything you have flagged as important
Assigned Everything assigned to you on a shared list

They are built automatically. There is nothing to configure and nothing to add to them: a task appears because of its due date, its flag or its assignment.

Today is the one most people live in. It holds what is due today and anything overdue, which means it stays honest: an overdue task does not quietly disappear the next morning.

If Today is permanently overwhelming, the problem is usually due dates being used as “soon” rather than “actually due”. Moving those to Important, which has no date, tends to fix it.

Search looks across your lists when you want something specific rather than something due. It is the right tool for “where did I put that”, where smart lists are the right tool for “what should I be doing”.
