Deleting your account

Contributors

You can delete your Marvelist account from your account settings.

Account deletion is blocked while a paid subscription is active. Cancel it first, then delete. See Billing.

This is deliberate: deleting the account would not cancel an App Store subscription, and you would keep being charged for something you no longer have.

Profile → Account Actions → Request a Copy of Your Data produces an export of what Marvelist holds on you.

Do this before deleting, not after. Once the account is gone there is nothing to export from, and the request needs an account to deliver the result to.

It is also the right thing to use if you only want a copy and are not leaving. Requesting an export changes nothing about the account.

Deletion is permanent. Worth doing first:

  • Save anything you want to keep. Notes, attachments, anything in a list you would miss.
  • Hand over shared lists. A list you own disappears for everyone it is shared with. If other people depend on it, make sure someone else has what they need first.
  • Deal with any events. Guests lose access to RSVP pages for events you own.

Your account and its data are removed. Lists you own go, including for people you shared them with. Lists other people shared with you simply lose you as a member.

The contents of a Vault-protected list are encrypted. Deleting your account removes them along with everything else, and a recovery code does not bring back a deleted account.

If there is something in a Vault you want to keep, get it out before deleting.

If you are deleting because something is wrong rather than because you are leaving, it is worth asking first. Support may be able to fix it, and deletion cannot be undone.
